Today's Father's Day Reality Check is Brought to You By...
Me: So what do you want to do for Father's Day?
Nate: Well aren't we going to your dad's for steaks?
Me: Yeah, but that's dinner. I mean, what do you want to do during the day?
Nate shrugs.
Me: Do you want to go to brunch? Do you want me to make you breakfast? Do you want me to rub your feet and bring you beers?
More silence.
Me: What? It's your first Father's Day so just tell me.
Nate: Well the Open's on, there's the World Cup, and the Yankees are playing so I'm set.
Me: Really? That's it?
Nate: Yeah. Face it, Mother's Day is really the gushy, flowers, fawn-all-over you day. Father's day is more like, thanks for the golf bag and the card, now let me watch my game.

accurate description of the "holiday"...similar conversation took place this afternoon in my house.
Happy Father's Day.
MAN, YOU ARE SOOOO LUCKY!!!!
The only reason I'm getting off easy this year is Jed is in Chelsea deconstructing an exhibition. He won't be back until Wednesday.Otherwise, he NEEDS to be appreciated, so I don't get off as easy as letting him watch his shows. We have to do the gushy stuff. Although If I don't call him at least twice tomorrow and get ms. won't talk of the phone to talk on the phone, he'll mope.
Oh, crap. Father's Day is tomorrow, isn't it. Hmmm. Better get planning...Hilarious conversation, by the way!
my husband bumped into another dad at the grocery store...and they got to discussin Dad's Day...
Let's just give them initials Other Dad=OD My hubby =H
OD: 'so what are u doin' for father's day???'
H:'I dunno'
OD: For mother's day I got my wife a day at the spa, which she had by herself, and I also arranged an afternoon at the salon... And I looked after the kids... and guess what I am getting....
I get go to the park with my kids, alone...... yippee!
H; Well, I kinda forgot about mother's day...
OD: And you live to tell the tale?
Wow! So.... I guess you are going to the park too...
We have no extra money so what does my husband want for Father's Day? (direct quote) "Just the love of my family". Awww!
So, did Nate get to watch all his games? I can't believe he took a pass on foot rubs and beers!
Dude! Take the foot massage and beer while you're watching sports.
hehehe I am taking my man to the beach. I will try to do most of the work, but you know he is going to want to help. Maybe he will let me drive!
yeah fathers day is all about the leave me teh hell alone factor. I am probably taking the girls to teh movies while DH hangs at home, alone, happy...
We're getting out of Father's Day this year. It's my younger daughter's 5th birthday. No sports. Many balloons and fairy wings.
Yep. We're going to Dave and Buster's and out for pizza and beer. And would you believe he scheduled an appointment with a client? He's WORKING on Father's Day...
Happy Father's Day to you too!
my hubs is currently enjoying "his day" by taking my son on an 8 mile run (son is in jogger). this means 2 hours of ME time. it's a win win. Ha!
but this afternoon, we will be going to see A Tale of Two Kitties, because he insists on some culture on *his day...*
whatever;-)
Guys really are so much easier than girls. This is the one area (And valnetine's day, of course)where it's easier to be the mom than the dad.
that's why Father's Day rocks! no muss! no fuss! no big whoope-dee-doo! hey, daddy-o. here's a card. let's get coffee. enjoy the game. seriously, what could be more perfect?
hope Nate is enjoying his! : D
Isn't that the truth. I took my dad out for breakfast and he thinks I hung the moon.
Next up is a tee time in an hour.
I really will win daughter of the year award...
Hope you and Nate are enjoying his first Father's Day!
That's what I love about Father's Day. Throw on some sort of sporting game on the television, hand 'em a beer and you're done for the day.
Hope he has a great day.
Happy Dad's Day Nate!
So true! My husband's butt has been planted on the couch all day watching sports!
No kidding. I offered to cook for my husband (I don't cook) but he - wisely - did the cooking himself today. He said he was happy to do it because he was grilling the food. Men! I just don't get them sometimes.
Wow that's easy. I had to make banana pancakes for the hubs and he sat and watched World Cup Soccer. Why is it that all they want is TV time? Don't they get that anyway?
That sounds about right. Tho' here, the Husband took up the breakfast offer. Then did his man stuff.
Happy day to yours, too.
Too bad my husband doesn't like sports. Instead, it's hours and hours of the history channel focusing on Vietnam and both World Wars. Plus, he likes to discuss it with an unwilling me.
Hell to the yeah. We had TV and naps and pizza, and the Mr. was quite happy. This is one holiday I think I can handle.
Since we spent most of the day in transit from AZ to FL, Hubby felt slighted. We gave him cards. We bought him gifts. Why the discontent?
He wanted breakfast in bed.
SOOOOoooo, next weekend, he gets to sleep in both days AND he gets breakfast in bed. But since it is Father's Day after all and he's not MY father, I'm gonna let Girlie handle breakfast. Heh, heh, heh. Could be a cold wienie and some Cheerios. But it'll be in bed, damn it.
;D Cool conversation!
Happy Father's Day!
I believe others would love to read this lovely posting...I linked it up in my blog. :)
sounds like my hubs on Father's Day. He's simple like that.
I hope yours had a wonderful day.
I always knew I liked that husband of yours. This only confirms it. We have to do a NYC get-together at some point this summer. I'll bring the beers.
My hubby read this, and was nodding along -- give him some TV sports and he's a happy man. (Even better would have been if hockey and/or football were on yesterday, but he had no luck on that front...)
Yep. We took my Dad out from breakfast and then came home and I gave my hub the rest of the day off. All he did was sit and watch the US Open. That's it. While I kept the girls at bey. And he LOVED it.
