Blogging Against Sexism: One for the Menfolk

As I've been kindly reminded by Cynthia, today is International Women's Day, which means of course the blogworld goes and turns it into something bloggy - Blog Against Sexism Day.

Because I'm exceedingly jet lagged (yes, I'm home! Glorious home!) and have about four brain cells left in my head right now, each of which is committed to other projects (yes, Amex, I swear your bill is at the top of the list. Please don't hurt me.) I want to do my part in the way I can: By letting other people do my part for me.

The following is a list, by no means comprehensive, of some of the great blogs out there penned by Stay at Home Dads. If their entire lives don't speak loudly to anti-sexism, I don't know what does. Also? There are some damn fine writers in that list.

Men can write! Who knew!

Visit them and say yo...thanks for doing what you do. Like fat-bottomed girls, you make the rockin' world go round.

Sweet JuniperCocktails with Kevin
Cynical Dad
Rebel Dad
Daddy Dialectic
Looky Daddy
Poop and Boogies
Flailing My Arms
Cry it Out

*If I've left you out, by all means say the word and I'll add you. And if for some reason you're on the list and you're not in fact a SAHD, consider it a high compliment that I thought of you in those terms. Or just chalk it up to the jet lag.

LookyDaddy is my personal favorite stay at home Daddy blogger. Here's my favorite of his posts, his argument "against" gay marriage: http://www.lookydaddy.com/weblog/2006/12/you_may_have_no.html

Thanks for the shout out; I will check out the daddies, too -- I'm happy to stalk anyone's blog, male, female, or NOS. Oh, and welcome back to the only real city.

I actually wrote on my post (thanks for the shoutout)about young men like those listed here - and my sons -- who will offer a new kind of relationship between women and men. Since policy is so tough to change (and to retain - see Bush Administration purge) these new men seem to me to be our best hope.
One of these guys has two daughters. Twins. I made them a CD of lots of the songs my kids had loved. He loved it too but asked, quite amused, why such a feminist would make a CD without ONE song sung by a woman! Consciousness raising comes from all over the place, thank God.

Welcome home! Don't worry about the Amex guys...they're pretty chill until about 60 days out. Then you lose a kneecap.

Somehow Cocktails with Kevin slipped through my radar...I'll have to check him out.

You're kind to list me with the likes of those better writers and likely more adept fathers. Another local at-home-dad turned me on to poopandboogies.blogspot.com which is also worth a looksee.

On another note, I'm trying to reinvent the whole concept of stay-at-home fatherhood. For the record, we now prefer the term DILFs.

Spread the word.

I blame feminism. My wife went through a radical feminist phase in college while we were dating and I used to read her textbooks and Ms. Magazine with disgust at their stereotypical depiction of men. I thus devoted my life to proving them wrong.

Which is such a guy thing to do.

Thanks for the link. In honor of International Women's Day, I will go back and erase all my misogynistic posts.

Thanks for the link! In my opinion, one of the best SAHDs on the web is Jonathon at Flailing My Arms.

Welcome home! Here's hoping you get some down time before the next trip. (Also, here's hoping they send you to Wisconsin, although the weather sucks this time of year!)

Three cheers for the men who stay home AND write blogs ( for their sanity). Poops and Boogies is my favorite title.

I feel so awesome to have been compared to a Queen song.

This is the best International Women's Day ever!

Seriously, thanks for the nod.

What Bossy said. Where do I get me one of those? He'd have to be happy with being a spare, though, because I'm not quite willing to give up the one who makeses the moneys.

Hey! I know what's not sexist! Bring back polyandry!

Just a note: stay-home dads are really, really expensive.

But they're worth every penny.

(now if I could just get mine to write a damn post every now and then)

Another great one to add to your list of stay-home dad bloggers: http://www.mikeadamick.com/

Daddy will have to get two jobs.

Thanks for including me -- even though you will probably lose a million of your own readers for displaying such horrible, horrible judgment ... still, I'm excited about it.
