Kids Draw the Darndest Things

Outside the basement elevator entrance in our building, the one that all the strollers go in and out of, the walls are filled with the art of the children who live here. I'd like to think of it as a wonderful homage to the kids, and not just a solution for parents who don't want to scuff up the Sub Zero with that icky scotch tape.

This one was just added a few weeks ago.

You can see why it's my new favorite:

Original artwork c 2006, some cute little girl in Brooklyn with my kind of humor

Oh, the laughing, it hurts.

Between you and Metrodad I'm starting to form a picture of NYC children as aesthete savants...

I can totally paint better than that. I'm just saying. If you want me to add to the wall just say the word.

Even as featured in a child's art, you New Yorkers are stylin'.

Maybe what she was saying was that she "feels" orphaned in a post industrial angst kind of way and that the cat is really her way of staying in touch with nature...

Pretty stylish orphans, huh??

They might be orphans, but they've got some nice art supplies. ;-)

The artwork in the entry area is a great idea!

That is cute...but I hope they aren't really "orfins"...otherwise, I would feel a little misty...

Popped over here from Teacher Lady...

Now how funny and cute and a little sad is this? Tugs right at my fuzzy-critter-loving heart, it does :)

The brilliance of this is that they have made a most profound statement about where they live and what they have and how we're supposed to see them. And it's funny as all get-out because of our supposed shock at them having a cat. And it's cute.

I thought it was going to be a family with two mommies. The orfins w/ cat line is priceless.

I love the thought of a wall of kids' art. That's so cool.

So is this drawing.

Oh man I love that. You've gotta find the kid that drew it and let her know. Funny. Damn funny.

Ok, I love that idea though...

Maybe the cat was an orfin? But now they have her?

Man, this is funny we're all trying to figure this out. You have to post a note asking what it means? For the rest of us!

I think I remember pretending I was an orphan as a child.

I watched "Annie" at least once every day for a very long time. And my orphan self always had a pet, but never a dog named "Sandy." That would have been so cliche.
