Frequent Flyer Mile(Stones)s

It's just 2:21 EST and so far Sage is rocking it with the many exciting firsts for the baby book that I have yet to purchase.

-Her first flight cancellation
-Her first teeny weeny plane ride (to DC which, last I checked--not exactly on the way from New York to Chicago but better than Raleigh which was our other option)
-Her first induction into the mile-high nursing club
-Her first three hour delay

So as it turns out, Chicago? Maybe not the best place for a convention in the middle of thunderstorm season. Just ask Kristen who is now driving (DRIVING) from Cincinatti where she was stranded with her own baby.

With any luck we'll get there by 7. I feel like Vince Vaughan and Jon Favreau in that scene in Swingers where the VEGAS, BABY! rallying cry becomes a half-hearted whoo. vegas. after 6 hours in the car.

whoo. blogher.

Thank God for grandma. And Wi-Fi in Washington National.

I still can't bring myself to call it Reagan Airport.

The last time I was in Chicago was in August a few years ago. Not only were there thunderstorms but when you're flying into, you already know there's going to be delays. I swear, I could have walked faster.

Good luck and have fun!

What is it about Chicago?! I love the city itself but every time I have dealt with flying there either for a connection or as the ultimate destination there are always delays.

Good luck and have fun when you finally do get there.

See...this is why I don't fly. The LAST time I was in O'Hare, I got stranded for an ungodly long time with two children. I'm flying there tomorrow...I hope to God the bad weather has cleared by then. Thank (insert deity here) that I'm travelling solo this time.

Hope you get on a flight soon. Being stranded SUCKS the big one.

The President for whom that airport is named is Washington. Not Reagan. But maybe that's just my opinion.

OY. I heard the thunderstorms last night and thought: that can't be good for travel tomorrow. Good luck.

I've been stranded in Chicago because of thunderstorms. I was 20 weeks pregnant. It really, really, really sucked and it's the only time in my life that I've ever been grateful for a Starbucks. They had an eye to the main chance and stayed open all night when the storms rolled in.

Good luck getting there. Maybe I'm glad I couldn't afford to go to BlogHer.

I've always hated Washington airport ever since I got stuck on the runway in a tiny plane for 2 hours with a screaming 6 month old who had a poopy diaper (and no place to change her). I'm lucky the other passengers didn't throw us out.

Hope you get there soon! And have a wonderful time! Sage will be the hit of the conference.

I am exactly the same way. I WILL NOT call it Reagan. I was offended by that whole name change. It already had the name of a President, and Washington was a far sight more impressive than Reagan, thank you very much.

Blech. When I saw your title, my brain went to gallstones.

I hope you're there by now, and have regained your enthusiasm.

Ah, traveling. So much more fun before the children. Now, it is torture.

Good luck and have fun!

Yes, I'm jealous, but I'm going to start a BlogHim! And I'll have it here in L.A.! So, I don't have to travel...

You are so very right about not scheduling conferences/conventions in thunderstorm season, but maybe the storms will knock the humidity out and Chicago will be pretty fine. But Reagan? Uh uh. Not an airport in my lifetime. I'm a native Washingtonian, although I haven't lived there since I was in my 20s and it will always be National and it will always have runways that are too short, but excitingly so.

Yeah, me too - after living in DC for several years an eon ago (before the Reagan years) I'll *never* call that airport anything but Washington National. :-)

I'm starting the petition to get rid of "Reagan" in Washington National's name. Anybody else with me?
